INFORMAS: International Network for Food and Obesity/NCDs Research Monitoring and Action Support
Description
The INFORMAS (International Network for Food and Obesity/NCDs Research Monitoring and Action Support) monitoring platform, founded in 2013, collaborates with researchers and local stakeholders to measure a set of upstream indicators and identify key priorities for policy implementation. INFORMAS has a large network (50 countries), but currently focuses exclusively on obesity/chronic disease policies and food environments at the national level.
This research tracks common underlying factors of obesity, undernutrition and climate change.
INFORMAS plans to expand to:
- incorporate sustainability indicators of food and nutrition policy implementation for public sector actors and assess food environments,
- include municipalities/cities, in addition to national governments.
Specific objectives of the project:
- Define and monitor priority actions for public actors (at the municipal and national level) for healthy and sustainable food systems
- Adapt and strengthen public sector protocols for food system sustainability through pilot testing in a range of national and municipal jurisdictions in West African countries.
