Women’s practices offer crucial insights into resisting forest degradation and creating more sustainable pathways, finds a new study led by SONYA´S Ph.D. candidate by Taís Sonetti-González and co-authored by the Professor María Mancilla García.

In the tapestry of existence, we reside within the betweenness, where humans and nature converge. In this study, the authors explore how local sustainable initiatives in the Amazon are fostering resilience and inclusivity, with a special focus on the often overlooked roles of women. Employing a novel decolonial and process-relational framework, the authors delve into the 'betweenness' of social-ecological relations. Through participant observation, interviews, and dialogues with 39 women from Santarém and surrounding areas, they present their perspectives on regional transformation and the impact of agribusiness expansion - Womenature from the Amazon speaks: "We fight 'the capital' with what we have, our dreams". The findings underscore the importance of integrating women's diverse experiences into the discourse on sustainable development. Moreover, the authors reflect on the mutual learning experience resulting from the transdisciplinary engagement between researchers and collaborators.
