Diversifying deep transitions: Accounting for socio-economic directionality. Our SONYA colleague Bonno Pel published a new article on "Deep Transition(s)".

This paper, written together with colleagues from the Maastricht Sustainability Institute (NL),  aims to complement ‘deep transitions’ research with insights about socio-economic transformation processes. Attention to directionality helps to deal with three weaknesses of the deep transitions (DT) framework: 1) the assumption of convergence, 2) materialism, and 3) insufficient attention to the multitude of value orientations and logics. Addressing socio-economic aspects of socio-technical transition processes (decarbonisation across various industries), the paper lays theoretical foundations for the LAMARTRA research project on labour/decarbonisation transition processes in the Belgian economy.
